PELORUS Foresees Dramatic Change In Wireless PBX Markets

Raritan, NJ - Several converging forces are tugging at the market for wireless PBXs, promising to pull it in new directions – and to new heights!  According to a just-released report from The PELORUS Group entitled “Wireless PBXs”, the market changes already in progress will ultimately prove dramatic, and will reshape the dimensions of this high-growth arena.  The exclusive findings are bullish on wireless PBX prospects: Last year, wireless PBX and key system revenues reached $275 million. The study projects that by 2005 this figure will more than triple.  The annual growth rate will climb steadily from 23 percent in 2000 to 28 percent in 2005.  And the market is just in its infancy.

Among these developing forces influencing the market’s future are the increasingly critical requirements for enterprises to better respond to and serve their customers, and the associated need that employees be able to float throughout an establishment without severing contact with corporate networks.  The growing concern that employees be reachable off premises also plays a role.  Meanwhile, PCS carriers want to extend their services to employees inside establishments.  And users must be able to more easily move their workplace locations without the expense of adds, move and changes, especially in today’s cost-conscious environment.  Requirements for carriers to reduce churn, also figures into the mix.

The report, which provides sweeping assessments of the market dynamics and opportunities for both wireless PBXs and wireless key systems, sites the former as the dominant of the two segments, with revenues of over $670 million by the end of the forecast period.  The annual growth rate of wireless PBX products will climb from 27 percent in 2000 to 31 percent in 2005.

The demand for wireless key systems equipment is expanding more slowly than the wireless PBX market but registering healthy growth nevertheless.  By 2005, the ratio of sales of wireless PBX equipment over wireless key system equipment will reach almost four to one.

The study divides Year 2000 revenues by industry sector and states that manufacturing and retail account for the highest percentage, 22.3 and 18.2 percent respectively.  A five year forecast for each industry sector is also provided.  Revenue forecasts by establishment size are supplied as well.
